What makes us different?
In our past lives, we’ve designed and written a ton of stuff. But we started this company to do the thing we’re passionate about—making things clear. That means that we’re at the intersection of design and writing—in other words, content. We’re more than designers and more than writers. We see the whole story. When we design, we’re always thinking about the copy. When we write, we’re always thinking about the design, the format, and the platform.

Making data visual and clear requires more than a color palette and an eager designer—it requires designers who are thinkers willing to acquire a deep understanding of the data, the story to be told, and the audience’s ability and willingness to understand the story. At DataTonic, we stand at the intersection of data, design, and narrative. We do other stuff, too.
We love infographics, but we also take on branding and design projects to keep us on our toes. We design logos, social media graphics, websites, and tons of printed publications (including research reports, annual reports, and magazines). Carla is a DC-based designer and blogger on dataviz and education. Aside from designing and explaining things to make them more clear, she does other stuff, like taking photographs of rusted things for her tumblr, riding her orange bike, coaching her little kid’s soccer team, worshipping FC Barcelona, and drinking unlimited quantities of spinach smoothies. Evan is an award-winning designer and creative director. Aside from creating infographics and leading design for everything from digital campaigns to corporate branding, he is a huge Baltimore Ravens fan and loves all things zombie-related. He is the first to own any new Apple product and is always up to speed on the latest software, technology, and gadgets.
